View Full Version : Flash preloader kicks in at 85~%

I've tried various flash preloaders and they all seem to kick in between 80 and 97%. All I want is something very basic so that my users know the flash is loading.
Are flash preloaders supposed to be contained inside movie clips? Most the tutorials I've read seem to imply putting them on the main timeline (main movie).
Any help would be very much appreciated.

See the attached seperate preloader only movie .fla in this thread...

Why does my preloader start at 40% (or some other unnecessarily high value)? (http://www.senocular.com/flash/tutorials/faq/#preloaderstart)

Alternatively, to bypass all of the above complications, you can just use a separate swf that consists only of a preloader to load your main movie into a new level of that preloader swf. This will also make it easy to use the same preloader swf to load multiple other swfs.
Which is what I attached in the linked thread above.

So what are you trying to say?

What I've posted! :p
And I already read what you've posted. What I was doing was giving a very informative link to webmigit (and anyone else who reads this thread) which will give a much better understanding and insight to the problem at hand. This link also shows that there is more than one solution to this problem. So essentially, I was reinforcing your response with a more detailed explanation of the situation and giving some more options.

So again, what was the significance of pointing this out? To me, it seems like you are being a jackass. I could be wrong........hard to tell sometimes when it's text on a forum rather than conversing face to face.

Ah...
Thanks guys for the material, I'll take a look...
The funny thing is that what always stumped me, before I actually tried flash, was how preloaders could work when they're in the file. And then all the tutorials I read never made any mention of extremely late starts or what to do about them. So once I thought I understood, then I was kicked back to square 1.
This stuff will help me though.
But "jackass"?.. C'mon, helpful is helpful. Its not a competition to see who can me more helpful.

Hey, if I were to post something that was incorrect, then I would expect someone to respond by saying "Hey Scottae, that's wrong.....here's the right answer......blah, blah, blah....". But I posted something that was correct and that added even more information to help in understanding the problem. And I get this response:

Thanks there captain obvious. We couldn't figure that out for ourselves. There was no need for this....even if there were no bad intentions.
What I've posted!
You are right....I shouldn't have used jackass.....it's more like smartass. Lookie here, I don't get paid for helping people in this forum. If you don't want my help......then ignore me. Then I will no longer help. If you want to criticize my help, then expect to get a retort.

In fact you're right... I would normally be the one to try to always give more info, rather than just posting some fast solution (.fla), as I did in this case, and I shouldn't of "questioned" your posting of that link...
The smartass.

haha....good one  :p I know you put effort into that. I didn't question that. All I was trying to do was back up what you responded with and then some. Add a little more. I am not trying to argue or to make myself out to have the better answer. I got (what I felt to be) sarcasm in response to my response. Sorry about the jackass/smartass. :o I am done arguing.

I love that. Programmer's try to code-phrase things all the time, but that's genunely creative. Though I see it more in the you scope... you.gotoAndSmack()...
Scotae, as the great asker of all stupid flash things, I appreciate all the help, all I've got to say is that I've asked stupid questions about flash in every major flash forum and oldnewbie has weighed in with helpful information, if not the answer, every time. so I respect any input he gives as well as any input anyone else gives.
And back when I had more time, or at least, less ambition to do what I was getting paid for :), I pretty much owned the cold fusion forum at tek-tips7) (with proper respect to the current forum dominators ECAR, TruthInSatire and r93. So I get the idea of giving answers without getting paid, knowing full well that while you may be answering a stupid question, you may be leading someone down a road to becoming competent competition for you. But while you may be fostering competition, you might also be teaching the person who's gonna make (and hopefully share) an innovation in that coding field.

And that's part of the reason I do try and help. That and to give back for the help I received when I was new. And for the help I will receive (hopefully) for the stuff I don't know.:)
