View Full Version : Flash 8 Video Encoding Error

I edited a video file using Windows Media Maker and saved it as .wmv file. I was trying to import the video into Flash 8 and unfortunately I get this error
The source file [filename] contains video in an unsupported format and cannot be encoded.
Well, after that I encoded from wmv to avi and mpg but the same error comes out. Not just that, every video I try to import into Flash 8, I get the same error.
Someone please give me some advice on this.
My video file is here : http://sung-siew.com/tmp/disco_ext.wmv
It's a 5 MB wmv file, any help on encoding the video to FLV or SWF is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

hmm i dled and could export it via flash video encoder 8.
can u play it on your computer (the one that you have flash on, not the one that you made the file with [if its different]).
I get this info below for your file from this program i downloaded called Super v2006.build17 by eRightSoft. Im using this program currently to convert files from one format to another encoding be4 encoding in flash. it might help, or not. but the soruce problem is that the computer you are on doesnt seem to recognize WMV3 codec which is weird.

For anyone who reads this, these last two post are just f***ing spam
Not sure if that was a tongue in cheek reply? - I expect so, but the post has been pointed out by a third party, so I want to ensure everyone's a happy bunny.
I certainly don't see these posts as being spam, even if the makers of the product are the posters. Their posts seem to be relevant to the thead topic.
If the comment was tongue in cheek, please bear in mind that we generally discourage any derogatory comments which appear to be directed at individual posters, even if they are only intended as banter - misunderstandings can occur.
Also, you wouldn't want to anger the Hamster Freedom Fighter Movement, as they are vicious little b*strds with big pointy teeth.

I just want to point out that by editing the remainder of Flash Gordon's post I may well have changed the context - it may be that the post was not meant as a serious one.
Cheers for the feedback mrMag. I have also heard good things about the geovid tool.

This incident makes me really curious...
I am on the same side as Mortimer Jazz... I have no problem with somebody replying with their own product as long as he is not doing it in every 5 minutes...
BUT, I have found out that there are SIX accounts that's coming from the same location which makes me think one more time... I'll have to take care of them later...
A piece of advice, GeoVid team... If you are keep doing that, you only get negative impression about the product no matter how good/bad the product is... You might want to think about that one more time before you do that...

True Cyan, ... as long as we also realise ... at my last place we were all members of actionscript.org because we were all Flash developers. ... and if we were making a flash-specific product there is even more reason for everyone to be a member! :)
However, and it's a big however; Judging by the posters' histories there does seem to be an awful lot of product promotion going on and very little sign of helping out around the forums.
Flash Gordon, you are obviously aware of a problem here and have a very valid point, although I think you could have approached it in a better way. Have you informed Jesse & Strok of this?
Look guys (to anyone spamming), I see little merit in deleting accounts, but one option could be to add your products URLs and product names as banned keywords. No one wants that. I'm sure they are good products, and light promotion shouldn't be a problem, but it should be accompanied by copious amounts of help in other forums.
Jesse & Strok need to call the shots here.

Mortimer...
You may want to have a look at this thread (if you've missed it...), which may put all of this into some perspective... ;)

Cheers Old Newbie :]
It's obviously not an epidemic (though I could have sworn when I first searched for cooljim I saw over 1000 posts - lol. Actually 27!) That's peanuts.
I still have ...slightly... mixed feelings. Those 27 posts have racked up over 30,000 views in total. I like to think of actionscript.org as the last [heavily-subscribed] bastion of good Flash advice (well, were-here-one-minute-and-gone-the-next.com seems to have trouble staying alive, and as for Flashkit - hehe, I say nothing!) Does anyone know if this product is actually any good? Is it fleecing the newbies?
If these spams really really continue to irritate a number of valued members (and we've already taken the correct first step of putting everything in to perspective), should we then start to consider the needs of those members over the spammers? It may seem trivial to us, but it's like my girlfriend not understanding why I hate email-spam so much. She gets about 1 spam a week, but as my email is all over the net I see them all the flippin time, and slowly that has come to bug me senseless!
the 'spamming' doesn't look bad at all so far. I hope the forums don't get seen as a soft target though .... just like French students here in the UK. We let a few of them come over, and now look what's happened. Overrun with the little blighters ;)

I get your point, though I still don't think this latest witch hunt is anyway justified at this stage of the game...
Those over 30000 views have only basically generated (to my knowledge...) these 2 few latest user protests... Guess it would of been different if there had been at least more than a few thousands... But then, some moderator would of surely taken care of it by now, don't you think?
As for the product itself, I as others have reported, used it a few times and it worked fine... After all it's not like a $1000 software package (more like $50 or so...) and it already strongly beats MM's own export feature!

Good old days, my friend... Good old days... ;)
Hey... Let's stop this and move the discussion to the other thread...

As for the product... I have tried it a couple of times, and it worked reasonably okay... But I am sure this experience might vary depending on what you are looking for... In the end, I ended up using the Total Video Converter for other reason...

Same here and I love it!
Anyway...these people fooled me with their cleverly placed spam. I take a personal offense to them now. However, I made the right decision so it doesn't really matter to me anymore if they adversite it or not. I just don't want some poor sap buying it because someone at AS[org] promoted it (which I almost did because I respect people's opinion here a great deal).
Anyway hoo....I'm sorry. I'll knock it off.
:o
This has been an on going issue with CoolJim., I have a few methods of dealing with the issue, I will keep you guys informed

Thanks everyone! I've resolved my problem, by using the Geovid converter. It is a pretty cool video to flash converter.. and I managed to import the .flv files into Flash 8. However, there's one weakness, there is a maximum for output's fps... which limits movie's frame speed in Flash.
Anyway, thanks everyone for your support!
