a... Calculator!

Yes, that's right, a calculator! but wait, there's more!

It works in base 12! Ok, i'll stop that now ;) You may have noticed that i've been posting in the mx forum about help with things, and they've been calculator related. You can now see the fruits of my labour, and tell me how wrong it is ;)

it's at Http://thor.prohosting.com/laguana/B12Calc.swf. If you're wondering why it's not in a html page, it's because i'm too slack :p and the free host i'm with puts junk all over html pages, so i prefer it this way. Feel free to look at the rest of the site, but don't expect a theme :p

Hope you like it :D

err pourquoi???? what is base 12 used for?

Laguana 11-14-2004 11:07 AM

Well, a few of my friends at school are getting interested in it, because they claim it's better than base 10 and so on, for all these differnet reasons. There's even the "dozenal society of great britain" or something with a website... But i just made this partly for fun and partly to see if i could :) i'd wanted to do a calculator a while back, but i didn't have the drive. So i get it now. The weekend before exams. :p

lol... u in the UK?

Looks nice and easy to use - nice work. One thing though - the screen does not clear like a normal calculator. So if i do:

8+9 and it comes up with 15 on the screen.

And then i do 3+3, it comes up with 156.

Nice work though.

Regards, snapple :)

hex kicks base-12s ass. look at how easily it translates to/from binary (the root of all civilization).

Laguana 11-15-2004 08:56 PM

Thanks for your responses everyone :)

Yeah, i know that it doesn't clear snapple, and that's just 'cause i've been slack ;) What it does, is it leaves the number there, so when you get the 15 then press 3, it becomes 153 before adding on 3, if you take my meaning.

And smoothhabitat, i do agree that hex is quite a good system, and binary is just plain great, but from a human point of view, it's harder to convert with 16 than 12, i've found. There's other arguments, but i don't care enough - i just needed an excuse to try to make a calculator :p

smoothhabitat 11-15-2004 09:41 PM

convert? why convert? i just count in hex naturally. :)
