Flash MX Developers Exam
Has anyone taken this exam? I was thinking of taking it and was wondering what it concentrates on and hard or not? Stuff like that you know things that will help me prepare. Also if anyne took the test did you buy the study guide or did you use a book or what? Any info on the test would be a great help. Thanks.

Howdy...
See this... It contains all the information you need to know...
http://www.macromedia.com/support/tr...developer.html
In terms of hard or easy... That depends on your skillset, I guess... (I found it very hard for me at the time...) Did I take that exam??? Nope, not yet... I took F5 several years ago with all the confidences and I even didn't look up the Flash manual, and I failed... I need to get one more question right to pass, but I failed...
So, what is the lesson??? Prepare all you can before you go to the exam, and see if it does the magic... Or, just waste $150 to see if you get it right this time...

Hi...
I just found out that there is a certificate program called Certified Macromedia
Flash Developer from MM for the Flash user...
I was wondering if I would be able to hear some story or advise on this
matter...
And... if there were anybody who took it, please tell me how hard or easy it
was... and how good it gets when you are looking for a job...
Thank you and have a nice day...

I'm going in next Friday to take the cert test on Flash MX. I'll let you
guys know how it goes if you'd like.
It's $150 for the exam. Macromedia gives some sample questions in 2
different pdf's (example questions and guidelines) on the MM site if you're
interested.

ANY Certifications are a great add-on to your resume.
This particular certification is in Flash5 and yes, it could be considered
hard. You have to have front to back knowledge of the software. I cannot go
into more detail because of a NDD.
As far as getting a job - remember, that resume you send in is for the
purpose of getting you that interview at as high a level as possible.
Certifications will always get yours places higher up in the stack as having
a proven credential.
Hiring managers do not hire (or even make an offer) to candidates that they
are not convinced that will do a good job. are a team player and are
considering that position for the long haul.

Has anyone here had experience becoming Flash MX certified? Is it necessary
to take classes or can you just study a book?

Yeah, I took and passed the Designer MX test.
If you've been developing in flash SERIOUSLY for the last 2 years or
longer, you probably can take the test and pass. It's about book
knowledge of Flash (features and technical information about the tool)
as well as your experience with Flash - you'll get a great mixture of
questions that pertain to both areas.
I've been doing Flash for about 4 years, and all I did was read up on
one section in the manual that I knew I hadn't looked at yet (which was
the section about printing in Flash - things like that). If I were you,
I'd consider what I haven't done in Flash yet. If you look through the
manual and there are more than 5 things that you've never done or
experienced yet, you might want to take some time and do some sample
projects that incorporate those things and practice up. You see, it's
more than just memorizing the book, there are questions about HOW Flash
reacts to what you do with it.
If it sounds like I'm being vague, it's because you have to sign an NDA
before taking the test. I can't disclose what was actually ON the test.
Have I helped here?

Hi John,
Yes it was helpful to read about your experience taking the test.
I have been working in Flash 4 & 5 for past 3 years and just started using
MX. My employer would like me to get my certification by November so that I
have it before the end of the year.
I am currently studying the flash 5 developer study guide, Colin Moock's
Book, Phillip Kerman's book about Actionscript and an MX book by Derek
Franklin. I saw on Amazon that there is a book coming out Sept 15 on the
certification test. Of course, studying as much as possible between job,
kids and family--always a challenge!!
Thanks for your post,
Linda

I read on the Macromedia site that the flash 5 certification is going to end
in November, does the brainbench test help you become ready for the
certification test? Any reason not to just go for MX cert?

When I went in for the test (just after MX was released), I had signed
up for Flash MX by mistake. I didn't realize the issue till I got to
the testing center. When I saw the title of the test, I figured 'what
the heck'. I passed with an 82%.
I think if you've been SERIOUSLY programming with Flash for 2 years
plus, you could take the test. Of course, it's up to you to determine
if you've been using Flash seriously or in a comedic way

I just read the requirement for the Flash MX developer exam.
Just went thru the sample questions on the website, they seemed pretty simple.
Just wanted some feedback from people who have given the exam.
And do I need a book or something to be more thorough
Btw Saw this book on amazon ( not available yet though)

I have a few questions pertaining to the Flash MX Developer exam
Are the questions going to be on the Flash Comm Server and Flash
Remoting server 2

Ah, I didn't read carefully!
I haven't got a clue about the developers exam, but I plan to take it.
I think with the questions they ask they're just trying to give you an
indication of how well rounded you should be for the exam.
So, if there is a question about Remoting, then I'd probably study up on
Remoting, local connection, shared objects and the like. Make sense?
I'm not at all sure, but that's what I would do.

i did the flash 5 developers exam, and all i can say is that u need to know
the key issues for every object/area within flash and the some of the more
obscure 'quirks' of certain objects/features.
It is very much a case of issues 'within the authoring environment' AND
issues within the published environment, ie. the internet, how your swf
works in the real world kinda thing. Remoting and communications server are
a part of flash mx development so u should know the issues. Most of it comes
down to concepts not actual code, where there is code its NOT like: which of
these snippets is the most efficient and stable way to inherit from the
constructor class of the impossible to understand object. Its more like
simple bits of code that allow u to show that you understand actionscript.

Subject: RE: [FLASHmacromedia] Flash mx Developer certification
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
i did the flash 5 developers exam, and all i can say is that u need to know
the key issues for every object/area within flash and the some of the more
obscure 'quirks' of certain objects/features.

Subject: [FLASHmacromedia] Designer and developper exams
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I remember we got a thread already months ago about the certified
exams. I would like to know if someone on this list passed the
developper and specially the designer certified exam. How are the small
study guide to take those exams ?
Thanks for your help.
