help with entering capital letters into popup window

I am very new to actionscript. I am trying to make a typing game. When a letter appears in a popup window the player must press the correct letter on the keyboard. I have been able to enter the code and have lowercase and capital letters show up in the popup window. The lowercase works perfectly but the capitals don’t. For example, when a capital A shows up in the popup window, I press the shift and A keys but it doesn’t work. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions.
