Default CS3 is buggy for me

Hello, I have Adobe Flash CS3, and it's a little buggy.

One the issues is that some of the text and images show up positioned differently in an SWF compared to the FLA.

Also, I cannot select a button with any of the selection tools, unless I click off the button and drag the selection of the button. If I try to directly select the button, it shows the rollover state and won't make the selection.

These things make it difficult to produce work in a timely manner. I guess I could upgrade, but I don't really have the cash right now.

Does anyone experience similar issues? Any suggestions?

thanks

CS3 was an excellent and relatively bug-free version of Flash Pro.
This sounds like an offset caused by a coordinate space issue.
How experienced are you with the Flash IDE?

Default hey there [afz]snickelfitz

Thanks for the reply. I was working with much older files from a previous Flash developer. I think this may have been the source of some of the issues. I used to work in Flash a lot, but haven't been using Flash lately. I really like to work in Flash and hope to see it in the iPads and iPhones.

Well, I've just finished the project I was talking about. I was just wondering if people experience bugs in CS3.

thanks for the reply

The sad thing is, issues like this crop up even in the latest versions of flash. Just a couple days ago we were trying to take a CS5 file and edit it in CS5.5... and Flash Pro went completely bonkers. The stage turned all black, and nothing was selectable. In the end we gave up and had to edit the file on a machine that still had CS5 on it. So I wouldn't bother upgrading Flash Pro, the problems will likely be worse, not better.

Hello, I have Adobe Flash CS3, and it's a little buggy.

Ans: Bug is in your knowledge. Not in Flash CS3 Version.

One the issues is that some of the text and images show up positioned differently in an SWF compared to the FLA.

Ans: It’s not a bug. See the Properties of your TextField.

Also, I cannot select a button with any of the selection tools, unless I click off the button and drag the selection of the button. If I try to directly select the button, it shows the rollover state and won't make the selection.

Ans: Go to Control from main menu and Click OFF the Enable Simple Button.

These things make it difficult to produce work in a timely manner. I guess I could upgrade, but I don't really have the cash right now.

Ans: You can always make your decision in upgrading your development tool unless you have such valid cause to spend extra $ for that.

Maybe I am dreaming but I have never seen a version of Flash IDE that's out in the market that I can consider as final product. They all were/are more like a beta version that they have lots of bugs in them.

The product life cycle of the Adobe product has become shorter and shorter and they are trying to cram as many features as they want to. While they do that there are many of the intentional/unintentional bugs that are left unresolved. Maybe the product manager thought that they are something that's good enough to get the job done which we can't stand because we think it is not usable. Oh well, what are we gonna do? Nothing. I stopped complaining about it long time ago cuz that's the voice they just cannot do anything about but ignoring them.

You're absolutely right... case in point is the pen tool. It has been barely functional, if at all, since I started using flash when it was still a Macromedia product. I think Adobe intentionally keeps the pen tool a buggy mess in order to corral all vector editing inside Illustrator, so you have to buy 2 products instead of just flash.
