low memory - increase memory ?

hello,
Could not open one or more scenes probably because of low memory.
To increase available memory, quit flash and allocate more virtual memory in the system properties dialog box.

I get that message on startup when I use flash 8. I don't have that problem with mx 2004.
It happens when I open a flashfile with a boat drawed in illustrator and imported or pasted into flash. Flash just lets the boat out. Which destroys the whole thing because it's build around the boat.

What can I do?
I tried it on two different computers. Not more than a year old.

How much memory does your computer have?

I have the same problem on my iMac. I can't even copy/paste sometimes because there's not enough memory. Solution was to use my PC.

Just reporting problem and possible solution...
I faced the same problem, and hasn't found any answers here or elsewhere...
My FLA has only one scene, btw...
I'm working on a mac, and sometimes the FLA would open and sometimes Flash crashed. Even if you're able to open it and do a "Save as...", the problem persists...
I opened the file on a pc and the same occurred...
The solution I found was selecting all the layers in the root timeline, do a "Copy Frames", create a new document, do the "Paste Frames", save the file , and "voilá", the problem disappears...
And now, within this new FLA I found one missing PNG... maybe this was the fault, a corrupted bitmap...

I had the same issue before a deadline. It was quite stressy. In CS5 a problem with this message persist. For me it was a damaged bitmap. All I had to do it was search the library for a bitmap that did'nt have the preview and delete it . Uff..

I have 12Gb of free memory and I still got the error. Thanks for the tip @trart. I'll check this out
