embed swf in html

hello

whats the best way to embed a swf into an html page?

if I publish a flash movie into html in flash using publish, the embed code it generates is not seeen as valid html when running the w3c validator.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that its better to use javascript. but not sure about that..
