Default mx:VideoDisplay UI Component

Does anyone know anything about the VideoDisplay component? The docs are fairly limited about it's capabilities. What type of video streams is it capable of rendering? Can it render audio as well if there is audio in the video?

Thanks...

Probably the same as what flash can do now, FLV and MP3. FLV can be played with sound, so I imagine the VideoDisplay component in Flex can do the same. I wish I had time to play with Flex, seems really cool

yeah audio and video gives no problem. one thing i have seen is that video doesn't mask nicely anymore in beta2 while it did in beta1

MP3 is audio only, I think. My only option for playing a video stream is FLA?

Does anyone know of a third party component that will play other video stream formats?

Alternatively, is it possible to launch another app from Flex, like Windows media player?

no not FLA FLV, and there are free encoders around. you can launch a popup using getURL (i think its in the flas.utils package)

You can also attach camera devices to it, and capture all the pixels and edit them with flash.geom.matrix/bitmapdataapi which is really cool too. It has video/audio support, flv. I've never actually used flash before but flex is awesome and everyone should learn it mwahaha!
