Default listBox Component

Is there a way to highlight an item in the listBox, let's say the first item by default? I want it to load and then automatically highlight the first item. I am also wondering if it is possible to assign a button as the controller for the listBox, meaning I can press a button and the highlighted area will scroll up or down, depending on which button was pressed. I hope this makes sense,
Thanks in advance for the help.
