i hear that flex is neat, but what is it, and what does it do?

i know it has A.S. 3.0 but what for?

Flex 2.0 is no longer limited to creating SWF's server side (although that expensive stuff still remains)

Flex 2.0 is a component framework enabling you to build RIA's quick and easily utilizing an XML based langauge to create and bind components to data. It also utilizes AS 3.0 and runs in the new Flash 9 player.
