Help, Component LivePreview in Flex?

Hey, guys, I am starting to pick up Flex 2, in particular I am interested in writing components for Flex 2. Can anyone explain how the equivalent of LivePreview works in Flex Builder? I can't figure it out for the life of me and I can't find anything related to this.

I see that the built-in components obviously do have live preview (I am talking about the preview that is displayed on stage in Flex Builder when you drag a component onto the stage and then customize it,e tc.). When I extent a built-in component (e.g., mx.controls.HRule), then I also inherit its preview. However, even if I copy all of the code of mx.controls.HRule into myown.HRule2 and then have it extent mx.core.UIComponent, there is no more preview! Where is the preview coming from and how can a custom preview be implemented?
