ScrollPane difficulties

I purchased a Flash template and am trying to put a scroll pane into it. I think I understand how the scrollpane works because it works fine if I create it in a new file. When I put it inside my template however it just shows up as a white box without scroll bars or anything inside. Is there an issue with putting a scroll pane inside a movie clip? What I have is a movie clip animation and inside that is another movie clip containing single frames with different pictures that are put into the animation depending on what button is clicked. I hope I've explained that well enough for someone to understand. If anyone has any ideas I would love to hear them.

Can't telll if I don't see your file, but my guess is something's not right with the path related to the timeline of the main movie and of your mc.

Your template is published for a to low player version, and/or as1 instead of 2

In my publish settings I had Flash 8 but my actionscript settings were 1.0 instead of 2.0. That solved my problem. Thank you for you help.
