Default new to FLEX

I am interested in the possibilities of FLEX, but I can't seem to find much support, or documentation on its capabilities...
Would it be capable of producing a fully functional .EXE file for download by users? or does it operate differently?
Is there anywhere I can read up on how to create such applications in FLEX?

actually, to be more specific, would it be possible to create a program that acts like a sidebar? like google desktop?...such that it is always on top, and makes the max size of windows decrease? (what i mean is, when you click maximize on the browser window, it only goes as large as the screen minus the sidebar)...is sumthing like this possible? if so, ill look into flex...

Eesh -- I don't think it can make .exe files, but it does generate .swf files, which you should be able to use much like an .exe file.

As for documentation, here's my favorite link
