Default Disappearing objects

Hi all!

I ran into a weird problem using Flash 8 on a windows XP machine.
Some objects on my stage were there when I testing my movie within Flash 8, but when I published and tested the same movie in IE and FF the same objects were gone. To be precise: two buttons and a static textField disappeared.

I noticed that moving my buttons to a lower layer than the textField solved the buttons from disappearing...

The "solution" to this whole problem was selecting "use device fonts" from my textField properties.

So what is going on here? Why can't I use anti-aliassed or bitmap font in the browser?

Thanks for your comments in advance!

Default update

And now I get the same thing when I'm placing a few images on my stage contained in an MC.

This is slightly weirder though. Testing with ctrl+enter and viewing in the browser doesn't show the images. However, when I test with the debugger it does show the images. I'm getting pretty lost here!

I'm still stuck on this problem and can't seem to find a solution.

This is what's happening in all browsers I tested in.
- Sometimes the page loads and shows all the Flash content. See: http://vwg.net/test/twsteel/probleem...em01_klein.jpg
- Sometimes the page loads and shows some of the Flash content. See: http://vwg.net/test/twsteel/probleem...em02_klein.jpg
- Sometimes the page loads and shows none of the Flash content. See: http://vwg.net/test/twsteel/probleem...em03_klein.jpg

The first happens most of the times using FireFox on a windows machine.
The seconds occurs sometimes using Internet Explorer 7 (windows). But when you click a button (of the Flash website), you get to see the remaining items.
The last happens most of the time using IE7 (windows) and sometimes using FF (windows) or Safari (Mac). After hitting reload, the Flash gets displayed correctly.

To see the website yourself, visit: http://vwg.net/test/twsteel/

I'd love to hear what your experiences are on visiting the site and any solutions.

Thanks for your input anyway. It's really appreciated!
What does happen when you close your browser, open it again and revisit the website? Repeat this a few times, does it still show the "full view" all the time?

Are you loading external data, such as xml or txt files? Are they fully loaded before moving on to the rest of you code?

Hi, bornholm, thanks for your input!
I'm loading two XML files (menu and the warning), later in my app I also load external swf files. The XML files are getting handled by a function AFTER they have been loaded...

I narrowed the problem down a little bit further, or at least I hope so.
It looks like sometimes my swf gets stuck at frame 1, when you only see the background.
Actions on frame 1:
ActionScript Code:
stop(); trace("Location: preloader"); _global.lang = "en"; gotoAndStop("home");

I hope that this might lead to some insights...

Default Solved?..

The site works fine now.
But the solution is something I don't quite get. It's either removing the stop() and gotoAndStop() actions or adding a loader and than go to the desired frame.

So does this mean that your swf file needs to be fully loaded before you can jump to a specific frame in that swf file? Otherwise items will be displayed depending on their availability (aka have they been loaded)?

In other words: How does the flashplayer load an SWF file?
