Default getUrl() works but loadVariableNum() does not

I am on a server that has form mail. Now to submit to the formmail i want to use loadVariableNum() but it does not work on the server. I tried it from my machine locally and it was fine. Why would it act differently? So then i switched it to getUrl(). This works but a new unwanted window pops up or changes the current window. How can i get this to work correctly?
