after i updated today my flash player (in firefox) i get a warning in the flex builder when i try to run my Flex applications saying a certain dll of the flash player was not found. If i run it anyway it works fine. But is there a fix for this problem, so that i don't have to click "yes" everytime i publish? Or does anyone else get it too?

i tried that before and i did it again. I get debugging information fine but the damn error message persists in my flex builder. and it's really annoying. Once the current project is finished i will reinstall for sure

I think Arun had it right to suggest reinstall of the Flash Player. I did that and the problem persisted however I noticed that Firefox was looking for the npswf32.dll in the ProgramFiles/Mozilla Fireforx/plugins directory yet Macromedia installed it in the window/system32/macromed/flash directory.
I copied it over to the Firefox directory and no more annoying warning. There may be a more elegant way to do this, like pointing Firefox at the macromed directory, but I couldn't figure out how to configure Firefox so I used the BFI (brute force and ignorance) approach. --Danny |

I know that the FlashSwitcher plugin for Firefox is pretty popular. I wonder if that could cause Flex Builder to think that Firefox doesn't have the debug player when it actually does.

I never used FlashSwitcher, although I wondered that if Switcher could see multiple players/versions then perhaps Firefox somehow got confused and pointed at an older version. Anyway, Switcher did not cause the problem in my environment.
Bottom line is that, at least in my case, Firefox was looking to load a dll that wasn't where it thought it was. Was the dll moved (perhaps from another application loading a new player?) or was Firefox's reference changed. When I reinstalled the player, it seemed to know to load it in window/system32 without me having any choice. Either way, it works now and will likely continue until another plugin or upgrade. --Danny |
