How are flash widgets made?

Hi, does anyone know how are flash widgets made? Do they also have flash as backend technology for client or something else ?

You mean like widgets/gadgets for Windows/Mac OS's ? If so, then you can use Adobe Air to create desktop Widgets/Apps as one option. You can do some powerful stuff with Air (beside breathing, pumping up tires etc.. (ha, ha).

PS: I have never made one myself but have researched it, for future reference

If you mean web widgets that are just a regular part of a normal website, then those are just made like any other Flash and are propably connected to server side languages and feeds (PHP, MySql, RSS etc.., etc..) for realtime data updates and integration.
