Default Timer

I am creating a player to load in an swf using loadMovie("moviename.swf","placeholder");

Everything loads and plays fine, but now I want to add a timer to show how much time has elapsed. Like in youtube ex/ 2:59/4:00...something like that

I don't want to do this using XML or FLV's, is there a tutorial or anything else anyone can reccomend??
Any help would be great.

Thank You
