Default FLV or Scripted Animation/eFX

This is more of a "real world" issue than a "this way is better".

After converting stuff over to AS3, I tested on my Powerbook (g4 1.67 2 gig ram, max everything).

Not exactly a machine I would just chuck out the window.

But the frame rates on older machines bite big time.

*General things like simple particle engines (duplicated movies)
Rotating the z axis and depth

*Any use of the effects (blur, color mode, etc)

Really make a huge difference in the performance.

The projects I work on are used by average to low end people.
Not exactly expecting high end machines here...

So:

I am thinking I would be better off using AS2 with FLV pre rendered effects from After Effects and having something rock solid.

Or is there someone out there who has any suggestions??

Thanks!
