Default how to call httpservice with parameters?

I have a slider that will call a function which ultimatley calls a php script with parameters based on its values.
Say if the value is below 10, it will call the function reactoslid which calls a specfic httpService. It does not work,
please say why?

private function reactoslid (event:Event):void{
			         if (myslider.value < 10 ) {
        //more if clauses for various slider values.
//this service is for the lowest value of the slider

 private function onResHttpServ(avResultEvent:ResultEvent):void
//parse the xml , show the results
