I am looking to create an online forum for a very targeted audiance similar to "http://city.popwire.com/". I would focus on one of their "graphical chat rooms".

I want to be able to track who is online; give each user a unique icon/character style; allow users to chat with one and other; and be able to move their mouse or click on other users/icons and get stats.

I am familiar enough with flash to be able to do this in a local game style version, but I am not sure how to go about do it with a network. I am learning PHP and MySQL (I have access to the newest of both), I expect I will need to know those. Also, I am a Flash 4 user and I expect that this project will require both me and my client base to upgrade to flash 5. right?

If you could direct me to a good resource for doing this even in HTML/javascript that I could transfer to Flash, that would be helpful. Please send any suggestions you have, Step 1 would go a long way...
