Masking Picture

I can't believe I can't get this, but...inside of a button I'm masking a picture. In flash it only shows the part of the picture that is behind the mask, but when I publish it, it shows the mask. I've tried setting the mask to alpha 0%, but then the picture doesn't get masked(i.e. it show the whole picture). What am I forgetting?

well I just set the button to act as an mc in the property inspector and it worked so I guess you can't use mask layers in buttons

I could be wrong...

Thanks Billy T, it works fine when I do that. The only problem is the path to each button is a little longer... Thanks!
