Default Stand Alone Flash Player??

I got very confused today : )

I'm used to the stand alone Macromedia Flash Player.

You know the one, you open a .swf file on your computer and it comes right up.

But I was on a new computer that didn't have any flash installed. Went to the macromedia site and downloaded the flash player.

Even after I restart when I try to open a .swf file there is no flash player. I can drag it to a browser window and it works. But I want the flash player.

I looked all over the macromedia site but there doesn't seem to be a download for it.

What am I missing?

Is the flash player only availible with the Flash authoring program itself?

If I use the projector it adds 800k to every little movie.

If you just drag it to a web browser it gets enlarged. I don't want to add an extra html doc.

isn't there a free public player anymore?

Thanks!

there is/was one somewhere on macromedia's site. it included updates for all the flash players you can have - one for debugging in flash, the standalone, and the web player (and maybe others?).

i'll go see if i can find it again.

found it!

here's the page where it is:
http://www.macromedia.com/support/flash/downloads.html

and this is the actual download (for windows):
http://download.macromedia.com/pub/f...update_r79.exe

i'm afraid the file's a bit big - 9.82Mb - so if you're on 56k it might take a few minutes

Thanks!

That helped a lot.

I wonder why they don't put this stuff in the regular Downloads section instead of hiding it in Support-Flash-Downloads-More Downloads?

More Downloads?

Does anyone know for sure if it is OK to make copies of the standalone player so everyone at works computer can play flash files properly? I couldn't find any information on their website.
