yeah CyanBlue the MM components are very heavy I think. Since you are now a Senior VP with MM can you get Retrotron to look at the byte code?

I agree on the text file, do you have a better idea? One that does not involve me feeling guilty because you are putting 30 hours into it?

Senior VP??? Okay... Wait for 15 more years and I'll have somebody answer your question...

As for the text file... The easiest will be having her send you the whatever updates necessary to you and you do the update... Or, somebody creating a CMS program or something that will do the file modification... Nothing else I can think of...

Well, I think the best way would be to have a form where you can enter your date info and then the calendar would read it and display it. But that means a lot more work than we should have to do with a component. Were not components suppopsed to make our life easier? Not so wit MM since they don't document them anyway! But is can be done. Seems like not many people put their heart to it - and some who did are not willing to share - Not everybody has a great heart like Cyan Blue!

I agree with the text file - it can be messed up by your client - and you know there some rather computer illeterates out there. Of course having to update the calendar yourself could be a drag if the customer has lots of dates and lots of changes, but you could charge for the work if it is a paying customer.

Well, I have a sample but it is very rudimentary. You should load the info from an external file but I have it in the movie. I'll work on that later.

The problem with the calendar component is the ability to set selected days, so say you wanted to highlight all the days with events on them. Its very hard if not impossible, at least when I tried to do this with the MM component, I hear the one in the DRK does more, but it costs 99 and I just spent 500 on Studio MX.

I have written my own calendar in flash 5, and I think I will try again in mx. But the out of box one doesn't seem robust enough for showing highlighted days.

thanks flashdudette, I'll check it out tonite!

yeah Freddycodes, the MM component is heavy and not as robust as would be nice.

I just need to sit down and write out an app like the Broadmoor Reservation sytem (oh, I dozed off and was daydreaming).

I guess this would be a prime example of using Flash Remoting and MySQL to get the desired result. Any other suggestions out there?

She needs to have a site where a prospective student (she is Phd in Boston in Piano) can check her availability and schedule an appt. Of course a reservation system would be ideal. But since my skills are, well, and she is my daughter's partner (ie, no charging for this) I'd like a thingy that I could actually make in a few weeks of work (maybe I'll send her a post-it pad and pencil she can stick outside her office!)

Thanks yall!
