No, not really, Flash Builder might be stricter (it is) but I don't think Flash is generating a corrupt SWF -- static initializers are valid:

Not that putting the trace statement there was a good idea, but I don't think it's invalid. The code ran fine the output was just unexpected.

Static initializers are totally different from what he has posted. He did not have the trace statement in a statically initialized block. Having the trace where he had it is invalid and Flash does generate garbage many times...

It didn't generate garbage though, I checked. It worked. The lack of the curley brackets is syntactically improper but not "totally different" -- I'm not sure curley brackets are required, placing code there is putting it in static initialization scope. Anyway I'm not sure why we're arguing about this it wasn't the problem... cheers!
