Default how is this rollOver/rollOut effect done?

hi guys

i hope this is the right forum for this qusetion...

i'd appreciate it if anyone could tell me how the following www.group94.com effects are acheived:

1. when you rollOver the "menu" area the whole black box eases out of nowhere and the menu buttons appear. when you rollOut the box goes back to being virtually blank again (save for some text).

2. when you rollOver the main scroll boxes or text box the _alpha settings increase. when you rollOut they decrease to their original settings.

i have tried doing this using hidden buttons (and rollOver/rollOut) and the hitTest method but a funny thing occurs with both methods that i cannot fathom...

...the longer i stay over the box, the longer it take for the _alpha setting to return to its original state when i rollOut

any help would be greatly appreciated

thanks
shane

You can increase a clip's alpha to a value greater than 100%.

If you increase a clip's alpha like this...
ActionScript Code:
_alpha = _alpha +5;
...but don't stop it when it hit's 100, it will have an _alpha value greater than 100. Then if you try decreasing the code like this...
ActionScript Code:
_alpha = _alpha-5;
...it will take a while for the _alpha to be lower than 100 where you'll be able to see the effect.

One solution would be to use an IF statement when increasing the _alpha:
ActionScript Code:
if(_alpha<100){         _alpha = _alpha+5; }

Thumbs up cheers

thanks very much PiXELWiT, i didn't know that _alpha values could be higher than 100 or lower than 0.

i will definitely be using those snippets of code.

thanks for taking the time to post a reply
