Default Personal Site

I've created a personal photo timeline, and was thinking about using this format for a few other projects. What do you think?

Thanks in advance for any feedback,

Mike

Looks good, I don't like the preloader that much though.
Text is kinda hard to read, make it a bit bigger maybe
And the transitions take a bit too long for my taste.

But still... very neatly done. I like the effect on the photoswitch

Thanks for your comments. What was it about the preloader that you didn't like?

I don't like the preloader -- how there's a huge black box moving from left to right -- because visually it's too aggressive. It's best to have a discreet looking preloader unless your website is about aggression (which I doubt with all those baby pics).

Thanks - an excellent point. Someone asked me to make a preloader for it and I went overboard, both with the color and the aggressiveness. I made a it slightly darker shade of green than the background. Thanks for the suggestion!

Looks nice!

Tips:

More subtle opening preloader
Preloader for the pictures
Clearer Text
Alpha fade for the text, like the pictures.

Shouldn't take too long to do those, but it would top it off

Default Design Revisited

I've added smoother transitions and the ability to drag the whole site around on stage. I've also added a tab menu at the top so I can add other pages easily.

http://www.mikenkim.com

In the process I may have broken my opening preloader (in fact I'm almost positive of this). Can someone verify this?

I've integrated the MX2004 preloader component. This component is a piece, but it works well with the Loader!

Thanks in advance,

Mike Britton

I like the site. here are my comments:

First point: I think a faster feedback when you click on an arrow would be helpful. At first I didn't think the buttons were working; then I realized that the photos were fading to black. Maybe it could just be starting your fade at a bit faster of a rate.

Second point: when I clicked on the blog button and the black screen filled with type, I assumed to click on it to get it to advance to the next point. What happened instead is that a new window popped up with the last photo I viewed in it (just like when you click the photo in gallery mode). You might want to think about shutting off the clickability of your window-launching button when the user clicks over to the blog.

That's it.

Why is the gray bar at the top (the one that says mikenkim.com...) a button but it doesn't do anything on click?

For the web blog section, having all those text may be artistic, but it's not a blog.

In the photo section, I would indicate how many photos there are and where the visitor is at. Put something like "3 of 50" if there are 50 photos, for instance.

I agree with the above poster that the button should work faster -- the fade out is too slow. Maybe try 31 fps or skip the fade out and go straight to the next photo.
