Favicon

Does anyone know how the favicons work and how to put them on a webpage?

I tried it to mine but altough it should be simple it doesn't work.

I would appreciate some hints.

yourIcon.ico --- you can make by using few programs, but the best way to do it by using free plugin for photoshop,
if you do not have one than I can give you.
