Default testing windowSWF's

hey, all.

brand new to the world of JSFL, but I thought I'd give it a whirl, by making a simple windowSWF.. It seems easy enough to do, but the only way I could figure out to test any changes I made along the way was to save/publish my .fla to the windowSWF directory, then shut down flash, reopen flash, start a new file, and test my panel.. If it did what I wanted, wunderbar. If not, I'd make another change or two, republish, shut down, start up, create new file, etc. etc... after about 10 times of doing that, I decided I didn't need to know jsfl that badly.. Question is, is there a way of testing the windowSWF without restarting Flash with every little change??

thanks for any help..

Flash should load the swf each time you open the panel - try closing the windowSWF panel and reopening it. Is that not refreshing it?

use the little x button. don't use MM's close button since that does not work.

hey, hangalot and splict,

Thank you for the replies, but no dice. The only way I can get my test windowSWF to refresh is to close then reopen Flash. In fact, this junk seems so well cached, that now the first test swf I was using (which I deleted) is still appearing in (and capable of being used) my Window->Other Panels menu.. Ugh.. That's what I get for trying to better myself.. lol.

devonair,
That is strange. I just made a test file and it worked fine. Do you have the latest flash update (7.2)? That shouldn't matter but thats what I'm using. I'm also using proffessional on a WinXP Pro system. Is it possible you are changing/publishing to the wrong file? On my system my Window swfs are stored here:
C:\Documents and Settings\canderson\Local Settings\Application Data\Macromedia\Flash MX 2004\en\Configuration\WindowSWF

You would need to substitute your login name and language. Then I would try moving everything out of that folder and restarting flash and seeing if anything shows up. If it does, maybe there is stuff in another folder like the Windows XP All Users login (if thats possible) or in the C:\Program Files\Macromedia\Flash MX 2004\en\First Run\WindowSWF folder.

If nothing shows up (and it shouldn't) then place your fla in the folder and open it in flash and publish it. Restart flash (still with no other files in the WindowSWF folder). Now your WindowSWF should be the only one showing up. close the panel by using the x. Open up your fla again and edit it. Publish it. Open the panel again. Still no difference?

I understand you know how to publish and load these panels already - I just thought maybe if you remove everything from the folder and see if Flash is clear and then try a test case and see if it works you may have better luck. If not, I'm scratching my head.

if u r publishing to the correct folder it is a known issue in some regards
u must close the panel using the little red closing cross button.
