Default Please help me with the buttons. It drives me crazy.

Hi, I have created buttons with 4 states as needed, when you press a button it changes color. The problem is when you let go, the color of the button goes back to UP position. How can I make a button that when you press on it and let go it will continue to be in a down state, until you decide to press something else? Can anyone please take a time and explain it step by step.

Thank you ahead

this might not be kosher but...set the button within a movie clip and use the clip as the button on the main stage (yep I'm a Director convert). on press (or some other mouse event) send the clip to the next frame. the next frame is the down state of the button. stop on that frame. when another button is hit have it run a clean up on all of the other mc/buttons. (sending them back to frame 1).

this is the quick and dirty way to do it. there might be more efficient ways to do this if you have 10, 15 or 20 buttons to deal with.

actually i'd love to hear one because i had a crunch project to put together this morning and i didn't have time to figure out the elegant way around it.
