How do I control a movieclips timeline with the movement of another?

well, you tell the other movieclip to gotoAndStop/gotoAndPlay a frame depending on the movement of the other.
_root.myMovieClip.gotoAndPlay(2) tells myMovieClip which is directly off the _root to gotoAndPlay frame number 2.

Slide Bar
What about if the one movieclip is a knob for a slide bar and as it is dragged on x it moves the other movieclip along its own timeline?

Then you have some code on it which turns it's x position into a frame position, and tells the other movie to gotoAndStop at that frame.
