Default Some handy web services

Howdy,

I just put together a list of useful web services I've found. If you don't know how to use the Web Service connector component, please don't ask me to explain it to you, though I do know how to use it, I suc at explaining things...you'd just get confused

The validation web services are not your usual validation services. The email validators will not just check to see if the email is the right format, but will find out if the email can actually receive mail, meaning it's not just a made-up email. It also returns the company that provides that persons email. The phone number validators will return the company that provides the phone service and the general area of where that phone number originates. For example, I gave it my phone number and it guess I was in Denver, in reality I'm in Fort Collins which is north of Denver.

Feel free to add more if you find them, I only put these up because they all work, and because they were the most useful. Please make sure the web services work before you post any others

Enjoy!

Eric

A useful tip from Madgett about getting some web services to work (thanks Madgett! ):

http://www.actionscript.org/forums/s...3&postcount=84

Open Source Web Services:

My first web service...a Geo Locator service. Just install and run on your server, which must have the ability to run ASP.NET files. Anyone with IIS should be able to do it, Apache does not support ASP.NET as far as I know

I will be hosting the web service on my server so your free to link to it, but I would not count on that as being there forever. If I get a warning saying I'm using too much bandwidth, I'll probably remove it...but your free to use it until then

Enjoy!

Web Service link to be used in Flash: http://67.166.46.41/ASORG/GeoIP.asmx?WSDL
Web Service which can be tested via HTML: http://67.166.46.41/ASORG/GeoIP.asmx
Source: http://67.166.46.41/ASORG/GeoIP.zip

Eric

NOTE: The Web Service can only work correctly from Remote Computers. If you are hosting the Web Service on your own server/computer in your home, you cannot test it from there. The reason being, due to the fact that the Web Service would be on a local machine, it will get the wrong IP address (i.e. - 127.0.0.1, 192.168.1.100, etc...). Local IP addresses cannot be traced since they are not unique to one individual computer. But rest assured, any person accessing it from outside the server network will get the correct information

here's a fairly easy tutorial on how to use the Web Service Connector, should help you figure out how to use them

unfortunately I can't really explain what it's used for...it's pretty much in the name, it's a "service" on the web. This is something you could use it for, just type in your Zip code and press the button, you'll get some of the weather details in that area.

You can download the source here
