Editing items in the library (but not on the stage)

Hi,

I've trawled the technical documents, but I don;t see how to edit the properties (eg, change names of clips, move them, add scripts, etc) inside symbol instances in the library.

Would I first have to place an instance on the stage then edit that?

I'm spending more time looking through the docs than I am working at the moment, and I think it's making people jumpy as deadlines approach.

Any help would be appreciated,

fl.getDocumentDom().library.editItem("someLibraryF older/someLibraryItem")

I haven't tried it.
