what i want to do is to send a movie clip to 5computers at the same time and send back the time taken by each to a server. What would best achieve this and do you know of any examples i could have a look at to help me. any help is greatly appreciated. What would the server side script need to contain.

I think just sending them all at the same time will be an issue. The only way I can think of co-ordinating 5 systems to pull down 1 flash file at the exact same time would be using the time element of Flash to wait until a specific time and then pull the flash file down...
I guess if syncronization isn't an issue it would be easier. You could simple capture the time at the beginning of the Flash movie, then again at the end, and send both variables off to a backend script for processing (or process them within Flash). ... it sounds like an complicated project. Cheers Jesse
