Question Performance differs when flash served by different servers.

hi all,

I have a flash document which when served by my own local web-server works fine as is expected.

However when I browse to our testing server (same app, same browser viewing it) the performance is noticeably slower.

Has anyone had any issues with this before - I can't imagine what it could be. The whole point of flash is to be CLIENT side right?

thanks,
desperate

Is it possible that the movie is not done loading (takes longer to download on the test server), and therefore acts choppy?
If so what you need is a preloader:
simple: http://web.oreilly.com/news/action_0501.html
flashy: http://www.senocular.com/flash/tutorials/preloading/

Also play around with the bandwidth profiler.
Press CTRl-Enter to test your movie. press ctrl-enter again to see what it looks like while being downloaded.

Default I have a preloader

I already have a preloader.

I get other data from the server, however I have loading screens for that as well. It is just bizarre.

I did not find any solution but to move the server but it happened once on me as well...

oldnewbie has talked about embedding an silent mp3 on the timeline. This forces the swf to play at the same rate, no matter what (at least according to him).
Would that solution not work here?

That might but sometimes having a steady FPS does not solve everything...

Perhaps, a little more detail is need (e.g. OS, broswer, server type, host). Including a testing like?
