ActionScript.org 2007 Tutorial Competition Details

Update - Dec 6, 2007

We've had a few requests to extend the deadline of the Tutorial Competition, and with the great quality submissions we’ve been receiving, we’ve decided to extend the closing date by one week from Dec 9th to Dec 16th. That gives you a few more days to get your content up to scratch and into the CMS! Good luck!

Background

November and December are a special time for us at ActionScript.org. This period marks not only the birthdays of the founding partners, but also the birth of the Community itself. This year we've decided to hold a bit of a competition to commemorate the occasion.

The Competition

You'll need to Become and Author in the ActionScript.org Content Management System (CMS) if you're not already. It's free and takes just a few minutes. Please be sure to read all the instructions, terms and conditions when signing up.

After that, it's simple; write and submit your tutorial(s) before the closing date, and you'll in the running to win some of the great prize packages we've lined up!

Each person can win only one prize package, but entrants will be ranked on a points system so submitting multiple tutorials may increase your chances of winning. Of course, quality will also be a crucial deciding factor!

The Sponsors & Prizes

We brought together some fantastic prize packs for this competition, with fantastic support from our generous sponsors.

There's $900 worth of JumpEye vouchers, to be spent on JumpEye Flash Components, courtesy of the folks JumpEye Flash Components. Wildform have generously contributed two copies of their WildPresenter tool, valued at $600. Chameleon Flash have offered up seven copies of their brand new Chameleon Flash Pro, to turn your SWF projects into customized executables and screensavers. The team at Flashloaded will be providing $200 worth of vouchers to be spent on FlashLoaded's great collection of Flash components. And finally, we at ActionScript.org are pitching in $800 worth of cash to sweeten the deal!

  1. One 'Grand Prize Winner' will receive:
    • $500 cash (via PayPal) from ActionScript.org;

The Inside Scoop

We plan on advising judges to give slightly preferential rating to the following types of content:

  • ActionScript 3.0 (and 2.0, but especially 3.0) content
  • Really well-written, succinct yet in-depth tutorials which explain concepts well, then use examples to demonstrate

The Fine Print

  • All tutorials submitted between October 9, 2007 and December 9, 2007 (inclusive, GMT) will count as entries towards the competition. Winners will be announced by ActionScript.org in late January 2008. Our judges' decisions are final and may not be contested.
  • Each entrant can only win one prize package at most, but submitting multiple (different) entries may increase your chances of winning.
  • Cash Prizes will be paid via PayPal.com. All entrants must have an eligible PayPal.com account. No other means of payment is available; anyone not able to receive PayPal payments will forfeit their prize. Any fees levied by PayPal.com on the transaction are the responsibility of the winner, and will not be reimbursed by ActionScript.org.
  • Non-cash prizes will be provided directly to winners by the sponsoring company. Prizes are not redeemable for cash.
  • Only new contributions will count as valid entries – updating existing entries is of course very valuable, but much harder for us to track.
  • ActionScript.org staff, sponsor company staff and judges are not eligible to enter.
  • ActionScript.org's standard terms and conditions apply. We reserve the right to alter these conditions at any time, without notice.
